Hastings College of the Law, where he has taught for 30 years, and is currently a Visiting Scholar at Amherst College while on sabbatical. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Yale Law School; after law school he clerked for a U.S. District Judge in Washington D.C. and then at the U.S. Supreme Court. He regularly teaches Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, and Legal Ethics, and has been chosen as “Professor of the Year” a number of times.
In addition to teaching fulltime, Professor Little serves as the Reporter for the ABA’s Criminal Justice Standards for Prosecution and Defense Functions, and on the ABA’s Standing Committee for Amicus Briefing at the U.S. Supreme (and other) Court. Prior to teaching, Professor Little practiced criminal law (both for the defense and as a federal prosecutor) for a decade. He served as an Associate Deputy Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice in 1996-97; and he still occasionally works as “Of Counsel” to the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery. Of particular note, he had the honor of representing death row inmate Mr. Brandon Jones, whom the State of Georgia executed in 2016.
He has also published the following article, Clerking for a Retired Supreme Court Justice—My Experience of Being “Shared” Among Five Justices in One Term.
